  • Some landlords require a fee for application. The Housing Coordinator or Help Center staff may be able to help to get this fee waived.
  • Help Center staff and volunteers can help you with computers and calling landlords. We may have bus passes to help you go look at places. We also have some financial assistance to help you get started.

Housing Discrimination

Housing discrimination is illegal in Connecticut. Specifically, it is against the law to deny anyone housing because of their:

  • Race
  • Color
  • National origin
  • Sex (gender)
  • Religion
  • Children or family status
  • Disability (mental or physical)
  • Ancestry
  • Marital status
  • Age (except minors)
  • Sexual orientation
  • Gender identity or expression
  • Legal source of income (refusing to accept Section 8, for example)
  • Veteran status

You can report housing discrimination to the Connecticut Fair Housing Center by filling out their form or calling (860) 247- 4400 or (888) 247- 4401. You do not have to provide your name.
